The Boomerang soundtrack was the ish, but this song was the STANDOUT! PM Dawn was always a little strange, with their flower power mantra and hippie glasses. Not quite the mold of black masculinity at that time–Public Enemy, X-hats and “By Any Means Necessary, that’s probably why I loved them so….. I had this crush on this boy–who will remain nameless and you couldn’t have told me that this song was not written for me and my teen angst. I was a tortured soul even back in 1992.

I thought I was the only one who felt this way about this song. Being male and black, I didn’t let on too much about the exact way in which this song made me feel. It was like falling in love with my fist grade school sweetheart. I would literally freeze in place when the song came on. There have been a few songs in my life that have had that effect on me, Stevie’s “Creepin” , Elton John’s ‘Someone Saved My Life Tonight” and Todd Rundgren’s “Hello It’s Me”. This one rates right up there with these other classics. I’m glad I’m not the only one. Thanks for the memory.
